Academic Programs
Admission
Music majors must fulfill all the general admission requirements of the University. Acceptance to the University, however, does not guarantee admission to the School of Music as a music major. The prospective music major is required to take written and aural entrance examinations in music theory and a performance examination in the applied concentration. To obtain freshman standing as a music major, a student must quality for MUCT 111: Music Theory I and MUPF 189: Concentration.
Aptitude must be demonstrated during the freshman year before the student is accepted into one of the music major tracks, through an application filed toward the end of that year. Continuation in the music program is contingent upon satisfactory progress toward a degree measured by regular assessment checkpoints.
